Butterfly Bench
Inspired by the name of a bereavement unit, the Butterfly Bench is an external seating area with integrated privacy screen. Borrowing principles from nature, the undulating and curved form is both self supporting and self bracing - removing any requirement for additional structure. The seating is designed to allow for all accessibility needs including a lowered section towards one end. As the sunlight moves on it’s daily path, the shadows cast by the Butterfly Bench draw a comforting blanked over visitors.
Manufactured from flat sheets of steel, the bespoke panels are laser cut and then formed with a jig ready for welding together. The repetitive nature of the design is highly efficient with only one forming jig required. Developed with Stephen George & Partners.
