Moonstone

Kevin Kelly Architects and Structural Assembly are delighted to share Moonstone, a pioneering project that stands as a testament to our dedication to innovative and sustainable design. Shortlisted in the international Antepavilion competition, Moonstone exemplifies our commitment to creating spaces that resonate deeply with both the environment and the human spirit.

This project is more than just a structure; it is a dialogue between material and void, a dance of light and shadow, and a place where the community can gather to celebrate the rhythms of the natural world. Through Moonstone, we seek not only to reconnect individuals with the celestial movements that guide us but also to demonstrate how sustainable practices can be seamlessly integrated into visionary design. With 3 points in each lunar cycle on the Kalends, Nones and Ides, Moonstone creates a space where community can come together for the alignment.

Moonstone reimagines traditional concepts of Henge and the ancient connection between the celestial and the terrestrial, drawing upon the site's layered history to craft a modern narrative that bridges the gap between the earth and the sky. Avoiding a solar-centric approach Moonstone is designed as a lunar calendar outdoor observatory, this project uses reclaimed granite setts and gabions to form a space where architecture and astronomy converge. Observers within Moonstone are invited to engage with the lunar cycle through an alignment of 36 markings, corresponding to significant dates in the Roman calendar, offering a unique blend of historical reverence and contemporary design.

Kevin Kelly Architects is passionate about pushing the boundaries of architectural practice, integrating advanced digital processes and principles of biomimicry into our designs. Moonstone is a reflection of our ethos—a space that is innovative, environmentally responsive, and culturally significant.

We invite you to explore the potential of Moonstone and consider how KKA can bring visionary design and sustainability to your next project. For partnerships that envisage the future of architecture and design, reach out to us. Let's create spaces that inspire, connect, and endure.
